Installing a deity or building a temple involve the detail consideration of Vaastu Shastra, Electional Astrology (Muhurtya Jyotish), fundamental and important  Religious and Astrological principles. It is not easy for an average astrologer or a student of astrology. There are complicated Astronomical, Astrological, Vaastu Shastra and Religious Rules given in original works such as Brihat Samhita, Uttar-Kalamrita, Muhurtyas SHASTRA, Etc. For easy understanding, interested readers may refer and go through the “ELECTIONAL ASTROLOGYBy Dr. B. V. RAMAN. Here I shall give just a few salient principles for the installation of a deity or building a temple.

SIXTEEN GOLDEN RULES 

 (Hindu Deity Installation and Temple Building Basic Guidelines)

  1. Installation of Deity or temple building should occur during the Northern course of the Sun.
  2.  Avoid the lunar month of Magha.
  3. Ceremony should be conducted when Jupiter and Venus are dignified and free from adverse influences.
  4. Good constellations for this purpose include Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Uttara, Hasta, Swati, Uttara-Ashadha, and Uttara-Bhadrapada.
  5. All odd lunar days, except the 9th, are favourable.
  6.  Lagna must be a fixed sign, and a common sign may be selected for a female Deity.
  7. Lagna should not be conjoined by luminaries or Malefic. otherwise the place (Nagar/Town/Village) concerned will be destroyed.
  8. No malefic should occupy the 7th.
  9. There should be no planet in the 8th.
  10.  The ceremony should be avoided at the end of an Ayana, the end of a year, a lunar day, an asterism, and on visible halos around the Sun and Moon.
  11. Installation of Deity or Building a temple should be done when the Sun is in the Northern course.
  12. The lunar month of Magha should be avoided. According to Kalaprakasika, the ceremony is to be done when Jupiter and Venus are dignified and devoid of adverse influences.
  13. Rohini, Mrigashira. Punarvasu, Pushya, Uttara, Hasta, Swati, Uttara-Aashaadha and Uttara-Bhadrapada are good constellations for this purpose.
  14. All odd lunar days (except the 9th) including the 2nd, 6th and 10th are favourable.
  15. The Lagna must be a fixed sign. A common sign may be selected for a female Deity. Movable signs should always be rejected.
  16. The ceremony should be avoided at the end of an Ayana, the end of a year, of a lunar day and of an asterism; and on days on which halos round the Sun and the Moon are visible.
